The Beginning

This journey with my hair started about a year ago. I have always had a perm and thick hair. Well..... I got a perm and then didn't need one for three months!!!!(most people need a perm every 4 - 6 weeks) So during that time, I decided that I may need to give going "Natural" a try. I told my stylist that I was going natural and she was in agreement.

In the beginning, we would just wash it and press it out( I was natural, but still had that straight look). I loved it!!! and I knew I was not going to do the "BIG CHOP" I loved my long pretty hair.

I recently just started letting my curls show in public and am still learning how to have that pretty hair !!!

Stay tuned for more updates

Waiting on Winter

Well, everyone in Atlanta today was eagerly awaiting the arrival of Winter. Not that it hasn't already been cold enough for a scarf, hat and gloves, but many were looking for snow. Yes, it does snow in Atlanta,GA and when it does THE WHOLE CITY SHUTS DOWN!!!!!! Schools close for the day, the airport becomes a parking garage and the traffic gets worse( didn't think traffic could get worse huh??)
So I guess you can determine that I was not waiting on winter, in fact I think winter is already here and I am trying to stay warm. In fact I'm sitting in the house with flannel pajamas on, a blanket and a space heater in front of me!!!

Are you waiting on winter where you live, or has it already shown up?

Holiday Outings

Don't you just love getting together for the holidays with your friends? I love it too. It gives you the opportunity to just be free and have fun with those people that truly care about you.

Tonight, I had a Holiday luncheon with a group of ladies from my church....and we had a blast. We had a nice private room at an italian restaurant named Maggianos in Atlanta. I loved the privacy in the room too!! we got to just talk, laugh, and be silly. The food was great and the game we played was a lot of fun. It's called Dirty Santa.... I know that's wierd that church people are playing a game with that name, but it a blast. If you have never played it, I suggest you try it this holiday season.
How to play:
1. everyone brings a secret gift
2. wirte numbers on small pieces of paper that correspond to the number of people at the party
3. place each number in a bucket
4. have each person choose a number out of the bucket.
5. the person with 1 goes first, by picking any gift on the table
6. the guests keep picking gifts according to their number picked.
Now here's the dirty part.............

When number 2 picks their gift and opens it, they can take the gift that #1 has if they like it more.... yes take and give them their gift. This opportunity to take another guests gifts continues until the last person chooses their gift.

I ended up taking another persons gift and then someone took mine!!!! I still ended up with a great gift though.

I hope you can add this game to your holiday party this year

Quilting with a SERGER

Oh My!!!! I had the opportunity to attend this great class at a local quilt shop on Quilting with your serger. At first I thought, hummmmmm this should be interesting, I have never made anything on my serger, I should learn how to do this, so I signed up. WHAT A GREAT DECISION THAT WAS!!!!

In this class we made a Drunkards Trail Wall hanging. All of the fancy stitches on the yellow fabric were created with a serger ( not my basic Singer, but a $2,700 Babylock) They had me drooling over a new machine at first, but I held strong. All the piecing was done on my personal serger though. I even learned a new way to attach my binding....to the back of the quilt. I have never tried to put on a binding that way, have you?

Happily Married

I just celebrated my 10th wedding anniversary!!!!

I am so excited and proud to be able to share this news with all that visit my blog, simply because I know that I am blessed. There are people that were married around the same time that we were, but they didn't make it, in fact I didn't think I was gonna make it!!!

To celebrate, we went to Miami, Fl. and had a blast!!! we splerged a bit on our room and stayed at the fabulous Mayfair Hotel in Coconut Grove. It was so nice,I didn't even have to leave the property. I pampered myself at their spa and relaxed in our private hot tub!!!! what a way to celebrate!!!!

I want to thank all of those that prayed for me and my marriage because I know I wouldn't have made it without the grace of God!!!

I have pictures that I will post soon.

I PASSED MY TEST!!!!

I am so excited to share with everyone that I passed my comprehensive exams for graduate school. This test was a week long and ended up being 25 pages long!!! I was worried at first, but then I realized that I believe in a God that can do all things!!!

This test was not only about grad school, but it was also about my faith in God and letting him do what he can do. I am so happy that I can now move on with earning my Doctorate.

Crazy Faith

Good evening,

I had a great service today and I just wanted to share it with you. Crazy Faith was the title and it left me really thinking is my FAITH crazy enough. The scripture references were: Luke 18:8, Daniel 11:32, Proverbs 3:5 - 6, Romans 12:3 and ISamuel 13:1.

The pastor told us about Saul and his son Jonathan. Jonathan has so much faith in God, that he went into war against the Philistines with only one sword. Now that sounds impossible, but he held on to his FAITH in God and went up against this army that easily outnumbered them. In order fo Jonathan to do this, he had to have CRAZY FAITH.

Some people have faith in God to fix their finances, but when their child is sick, they run to doctors and medicine instead of God.

Some people believe God for healing their bodies, but not for healing their marriage

Some people will believe God for a new job, but not a new home...

I ask you now,"How crazy is your faith?

The First Day

Well, I survived the 1st day of school!!!!!!

Even though I am not a classroom teacher, I still got very nervous last night thinking about what I was going to wear, what to take for lunch,(which I left in my car)and what was going to happen. I guess it's not just for kids to be nervous huh?

The day went well though, so I am glad that all of our students got to school safely, ate lunch, and made it home safely(that's usually our goal). I personally didn't leave the building until 5pm, but hopefully tomorrow I can leave a little earlier. Hubby took me to dinner too!!!! How sweet was that!?

Must See Movie

This afternoon, I had the pleasure to view a great movie titled "One Night with the King". Let me tell you how I came to watch this great film....

A year ago, my First Lady took us on a retreat where she discussed great ladies of the bible as role models. One of those ladies was Esther. She talked about how Esther had to know when and how to speak to the King and how God had favored her with that. She also talked about how brave and courageous Esther was for standing up for her people even when her own life was at stake.
At that time she also talked about a movie that we all needed to see about Esther. I went back and read about Esther in the bible and thought, "I must find this movie". I never found it, then one day I saw it in a Christian catalog and was like 'WOW!!!! there's that movie about Esther, I should go buy it". I didn't.
Last week, I started my subscription to Netflix and was looking through the movie listings, do you know what I found...... The movie about Esther. This time, I immediately placed it in my instant watch set and said, "Now I have it and can watch it" This afternoon, I finally sat down and watched the movie. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!! If you have not seen this movie, please try to find it and watch it. If you have seen it, spread the word to all women.

Staying Busy

I had a great day yesterday in my sewing room.

I got two quilt tops completed and about 12 kleenex holders done!!! I'm going to start selling the kleenex holders in my church's bookstore next week. I don't know how that will work, but I'm going to bring the fruits of my gift from God back to him and the people at my church.

I also opened a new store account on Zibbet.com. I'm hoping that it will bring me some more exposure and meet new people too.

Chicago Vacation

Hey guys,

I just had a great trip to Chicago!!!! My husband and I had a great time exploring the city and tasing all of the great food. The trip was originally school related for me, but I did squeez in some fun time.
Here's a picture of the view from our room!!!
The view looking down from the 51st Floor!!!

The view at night!!!

With all of this, can you believe that I didn't buy any fabric!!! I couldn't believe it either, but it was only because I didn't find any shops downtown. I guess on my next visit, I'll have to venture out more.

Who's in Charge?

Good evening,

I just read this article on Sparkpeople about Fast Food. The article talks about how McDonald's must stop putting toys in their kids meals because it will promote unhealthy eating habits in the children. This Parent's Group is also threatening to sue, if they don't.
I am all for healthy eating because I am working on it, but I don't think McDonald's is at fault. We are talking about children that don't work and have no true form of income, so these kids are not going on their own buying Happy Meals.
I also don't have children, but would it not be up to the parent to determine what their child eats and where it came from? Is the lure of a new Toy Story 3, Shrek, or any other movie toy that inticing that a child can get their parent to go to McDonald's?

What do you think?

Date Night

Hi,

Last night my husband and I went to a birthday party for an old friend. We ended up at a Japanese Restaurant where they cook the food in front of you. It was sooo much fun!!! I haven't experienced anything like it in about 10 years at a Benihana. I know that is not really a "Date Night", but after 10 years, a night out is a night out.

Well, after about 4 hours, I got my first bag done!!!!!

AND NOTHING ELSE!!
I guess tomorrow I can finish the second bag....
